Sketch, Paint, Play: Favorite Mixed Media Supplies in Procreate

If you love the look of mixed media art but don’t want to drag out piles of supplies, this new Procreate brushset is going to be your new favorite tool. I’ve put together a collection of brushes that mimic some of the most-loved traditional art supplies, from pencils and pens to paint and pastels, all inside your iPad. And the best part? It’s free for newsletter subscribers!

What’s Inside the Brushset

This brush pack is loaded with textures that feel authentic and fun to use. You’ll find brushes inspired by Prismacolor, Tombow, Neocolor, Micron, Posca and more! Whether you want detailed illustrations or you want to use them for mark-making in abstract paintings, it’s all here. My members have some bonus brushes for this set as well!

Bonus Color Palettes

To make things even easier, I’ve included free palettes to go along with the brushes. Palettes will help you jump right in without hunting down swatches or guessing colors. Of course, you don’t need to use accurate colors for the different brushes but by limiting your palette like this, you will help your art look less digital! On the Prismacolor and Tombow palettes, switch to “Card” view in Procreate to see the accurate names/numbers!

I took this photo years ago, when I initially made the Prismacolor palette. There are online hex codes that supposedly match the pencil colors but they really didn’t seem accurate! So I “eyeballed it” which was slow but fun and kind of relaxing! Your free palette has the first 24 colors but my members get the first 60! I have yet to complete the entire Prismacolor palette. 😉 I’ve now done the same thing for Tombow and Neocolor ii palettes! I hope you enjoy them!

In addition to the brushes and palettes, I included a Procreate Sketchbook in this free download. You can learn about sketchbooks here but I also go over it in the YouTube lesson below!

See Them in Action

I have been dabbling in this painty, mixed media look in Procreate. This new brush set was used for the paintings below (inspired by a Laura Horn class). It is SO relaxing!

I’ve been having the most fun with the Caran d’Ache Neocolor ii inspired brush! I love good texture! It’s my new obsession in “real life” too!

Here’s an example of digital collage where I used the mixed media set for mark-making on the “paper” before using it. Here is a full post about this technique!

Not all of these brushes are new (but some of them are!). I just wanted to have them all together in one place. I made a quick YouTube video to explain how to use some of them. For example, the Neocolor ii brush has a water brush you can use with it if you wish!

How to Get Them

This brushset is completely free for all of my newsletter subscribers (sign up below!). My emails always have a link and password to the newsletter freebies, The Pixel Pantry. This set is in the 2025 section! While you are there, be sure to grab my other favorite set which is called Procreate Potpourri. In that set, there are pastel brushes that will be a great addition to mixed media art.
