October 2022 was a month full of mushrooms! I released a class all about mushrooms, I had a month-long mushroom art challenge, and I hosted a mushroom Draw This In Your Style when I hit 10K on Instagram! There are so many ways to draw mushrooms that I could have kept going much longer, I never bored of it! Here is the mushroom challenge, it’s never too late to join in, dates don’t matter! You can see my results as well!
If you aren’t quite sure where to start, you might like my mushroom class. In class, we do a thorough sketch study of a wide variety of mushrooms and I point out the important parts to watch for. Once you train your eye to see those things, you’ll be drawing ALL the mushrooms! I also show you how to illustrate them in a few different ways so you can find your favorite. All of the brushes and other resources you need are included in class, as always! Classes are part of my Creative Journey membership which you can read more about here: https://classes.leilaandpo.studio/p/home
Finally, you could also participate in my DTIYS and grab the free brushes to help you! To do a DTIYS, you look at the original art and try to make something similar but in your own style! You can find the free brushes here: https://leilaandpo.studio/instagram-fun/ I included some canvas texture brushes in this set. My preferred way of using those is on layers above your art. Fill a layer in one stroke with a texture, usually with a medium gray tone, then set the layer Blend Mode to Multiply. Duplicate that layer and set the other one to Color Burn. Play with opacity on both layers to reduce the gray color. Draw on layers underneath those textures!
