Poppies On Repeat!

If you’ve ever wanted to make a floral pattern that feels both polished and playful, you’re going to love this lesson on poppies in Procreate. In this YouTube lesson, I show you how to make a seamless poppy pattern with a twist! Your outlines and color layers are completely separate, giving you endless ways to customize your artwork! 🎨🌸 This technique opens up a world of creative possibility. And yes, there’s a freebie waiting for you in The Pixel Pantry too!

For anyone thinking they have no need for learning to make patterns, this might change your mind! You don’t have to be a fabric designer in order to have fun with patterns! There are other things you can use patterns for, it’s a really useful skill. And if this poppy lesson is too complicated, you can start with more simple patterns like I show you here! And I have a mini series of blog posts about patterns that starts here.

OK! On to the Poppies!

One of my favorite things about this method is how customizable it is. You can keep your outlines dark and bold for a graphic look or go soft and subtle with tinted lines and pastel blooms. You can also choose to turn off the outline layer all together! This lesson can be used for a wide variety of motifs, not just poppies.

Grab Your Freebies!

To make the process even easier, I’ve added a Poppy Palette to The Pixel Pantry, where Procreate freebies are always stocked😉. You can find it in the 2024 freebies section which you will get access to when you sign up for my newsletter (your emails will have the relevant link and password)! Look for the freebie that looks like this:

This is a freebie that has nothing to do with the YouTube lesson. While you’re in The Pixel Pantry, scroll back to the 2022 freebies for some fun poppy stamp brushes! I hope you enjoy them! They look like this:

I HAVE used these stamps to make patterns by drawing more stems!

Here You Go! Lesson Time!

Whether you’re designing for print, play, or portfolio, this poppy pattern technique is a joy to create and will level-up your pattern-making skills. I hope you give it a try and better yet, I hope you truly enjoy playing with poppies in Procreate!!

Look how fun it is to change the colors. Aren’t they gorgeous?

With these three I just changed the background:

With these, the background is the same but the outlines are different:

And with these, I changed everything!

I watched the YT video and it is WAY beyond my pay grade. Yikes and I look forward to learning more about patterning as I gain knowledge and experience in Procreate. It is beautiful for sure. I found my way to this blog post via your SubStack post. What I can’t find are/is your POPPY STAMP(S). I thought I’d start there and play.

Also, I saw your IG handle but lost it and can’t find it again. Please help this old lady.

    1. Hi Marrianna! The poppy stamps are in the newsletter freebies (The Pixel Pantry). You will need to scroll back to older freebies! I am no longer on IG or FB though 🙂
